Today I deleted my linkedin account.

For me it is a natural step after getting rid of facebook and google. Most people don’t think of it as the same type of social network than facebook because it is more focused on work. And while it is true that work is a more public aspect of life than other areas, it is still the same surveillance capitalism and information accumulation principle behind it.

With linkedin there is a trade off to consider, which is future jobs. Most recruiters and job search companies use linkedin as a source of reputable information. I can’t know how many future doors might I have closed nor how permanent that damage is.

On the other hand the current corporate-state power consolidation in the U.S. increases the risks of using their services. I was already feeling uncomfortable when any non recruiter would use linkedin to contact me. Now I consider any data I share in there as part of that power. Power that is trying to reduce my standards of living.

After considering these risks, like with any of the other platforms its costs are very high compared to the utility they have. They are too expensive.
