Families like ours is a TV mini series from Denmark. Some future in which denmark is no longer viable because pumps getting water out become too expensive.
I skipped through last 2 episodes.
The first few episodes were more interesting about all the bureaucracy and the collapse of society and normalcy.
But the later episodes were a more traditional immigrant drama. People trying to survive when things are mostly against them with the goal of somewhere better.
It was mostly well done and believable, and the drama was very well executed. It conveyed effectively the transition from everyday privileged rich country lives to complete chaos, and the struggles that arised.
It felt frustrating with some of the characters showing too much impulsivity and not enough fear. The first few episodes set them up well but their actions later on were hard to believe even in the context of the hardship of immigration.
There are also some plot devices that I found distracting and counterproductive.
After the series I had a look on how feasible the whole thing is. I would assume that for the whole Denmark to be shut down the water level would have to go up at least 10m.
At that sea level everybody in the world would be extremely aware of immigration and hardship and the economic consequences would already be everywhere.
The transition feels too abrupt, too isolated. I would expect to abandon some neighborhoods first, maybe a few cities. No one to buy a house a few years prior.
In summary, great drama but not so good on exploring the climate change premise.
